Enquadrada dins l'anomenat "Nouvelle Manga" (etiqueta del tot encertada), Mariko Parade suposa una obra de col·laboració entre Frederic "La espinaca de Yukiko" Boilet i Kan "Monokuro Kinderbook" Takahama. Col·laboració que s'endevina més a nivell espiritual que pel que fa a la realització, doncs el primer assumeix la gran majoria del treball (almenys això sembla pels crèdits).
Entrant en matèria, el que se'ns ofereix és ni més ni menys que una història d'amor. D'amor entre éssers humans però també d'amor a aquell treball tan especial que consisteix en comprendre'ls, és a dir, amor a l'art. El guió, fet de subtils detalls, sensacions i records, on aparentment no succeeix res, convida el lector a passejar-se plàcidament per les seves pàgines. Gran part de la seva màgia resideix en la veracitat (o versemblança) autobiogràfica dels personatges i la seva història, una espècie de poesia esquitxada de vegades de bruta realitat. D'altra banda, existeix un joc intertextual, amb cites d'obres dels mateixos autors/protagonistes i inclusió completa d'algunes d'elles, que ajuda a mantenir l'interès del lector i li força a interpretar aquesta història com quelcom que es construeix a si mateix, com el rastre d'un procés de creació artística. En qualsevol cas, siga encertada la meva interpretació o no, sí és cert que es percep aquesta buidor pròpia de l'art japonès que convida a la participació del lector.
A nivell gràfic, la predominant tècnica pseudofotogràfica aconsegueix transmetre tota l'atmosfera que necessita la història, arribant a ser part essencial de la mateixa. L'efecte, molt aconseguit sobretot en les eròtiques pàgines a color, contrasta amb un toc caricaturesc emprat de vegades. Pel seu costat, la narració gràfica és tan senzilla com correcta, permetent una lectura assossegada i sense sobresalts.
En resum, un "nouvelle manga", exquisidament editat per la gent de Ponent Mon, que farà les delícies del públic adult habitual, i que segurament quedarà incomprès per a molta gent. Personalment pense que paga la pena intentar-lo, si ets de mentalitat oberta ho agrairàs.
